Simple traditions to
strengthen family ties GARDEN OF LOVE: Easter signals the beginning of spring and
when you think spring, you think of a new garden. Start the week before
Easter and let your children help you select the flowers or vegetables
they would like to plant. Planting a garden and waiting for new life is a
joyful experience. This is a tradition you can do year after year that
will lead to many conversations about different kinds of "New Beginnings"
as well as create wonderful memories for your family. Be sure to snap a
photo of your children next to the fruit of their labors for your Easter
Traditions Book.
EASTER EGGSTRAVAGANZA: For most of us, Easter is
not Easter if you don't decorate eggs. This year, instead of letting the
kids have all the fun, start a tradition that involves the whole family.
Throw an annual Easter egg decorating contest. Choose plenty of categories
so everyone has a chance to win. Some great categories might be: funniest
egg, most original egg, scariest egg and celebrity egg. The wackier the
categories, the more fun you'll have decorating and judging. Ask everyone
to submit an egg for each category and display the eggs for all to see on
the dining room table. You can ask Grandma and Grandpa to be the judges,
or invite some neighbors or friends over to do the honors. Before you know
it everyone will want to enter the contest.

Every year our family chooses a new Easter
Child. The Easter Bunny hides all the eggs and treasures. Before all the
kids dig into their stash, the Easter Child is determined in this manner:
an envelope holding the description of the special "Egg" (determined prior
to hiding them) is opened. For instance, " the egg with the green
sparkles." Whoever found that particular egg becomes the Easter Child for
the year. That child receives a special gift, usually a gift certificate
to the bookstore. He or She may be given a special assignment for the
year. The outgoing Easter Child is always given recognition and a special
treat! ~Caryn Stapp
Every year, rather than having the Easter
Bunny visit (now that we are all older), the night before Easter, our
family fills plastic Easter eggs with tiny monster trucks, candy, etc. We
then hide them in the missionaries' yard with a basket on the step and a
letter saying that the Easter Bunny had visited and has left eggs in the
grass. It really is a make-you-feel-good experience. We all love it!

Lessons for Little
Ones: April is about sharing and serving, experiencing the joy
of giving to others. It is realizing how wonderful it is to give without
expecting anything in return. The "Hip Hop Trail" is a fun way to start
